Best facials for mature skin over 40

Makeup catching on dry patches while your skin looks less firm than it used to? My best overall facial for mature skin is Glo2; my preferred pairing for surface smoothness and peach fuzz is Glo2 with dermaplaning, with more targeted treatments chosen around your specific concerns.

TL;DR
  • At Brittdaesthetics, Glo2 is my best facial for mature skin starting a personalized, ongoing skin plan.
  • Glo2 with dermaplaning is my preferred pairing for suitable skin with peach fuzz and uneven surface texture.
  • Microneedling, chemical peels and RF address different concerns; none replaces an individualized assessment.
  • I recommend Glo2 every 4 weeks for most clients, adjusting treatment and timing to your skin.

Why your main concern matters more than your age

Skin over 40 doesn't come with one universal treatment prescription. Dryness, uneven pigment, roughness and changes in firmness are different concerns, even when they show up together.

I'm Britt, a licensed aesthetician, and I want your first appointment to make sense for your skin—not just the birthday on your intake form. You don't need a perfect skincare routine to start. You can plan your first visit and bring your questions, current products and concerns with you.

For your 2026 skin plan, choose the concern you most want to address before choosing the most intensive treatment.

What makes the best facial for mature skin?

These are the criteria behind my recommendations:

  • Concern fit: Does the treatment address dehydration, surface texture, pigmentation, scarring or firmness?
  • Skin tolerance: Does your current skin condition support the proposed exfoliation or treatment intensity?
  • Personalization: Can treatment choices change with your skin and goals?
  • Recovery fit: Can you follow the preparation and aftercare the treatment requires?
  • Consistency: Does the appointment fit into an ongoing plan rather than stand alone as a promised transformation?

A stronger sensation doesn't automatically mean a better treatment. Neither does more exfoliation.

Mature-skin treatments at a glance

Treatment Best for Standout approach Key limitation
Glo2, including The Deluxe Glo Starting an ongoing skin plan Pod selection and ultrasound-assisted serum penetration Doesn't replace targeted treatment for every concern
Glo2 with dermaplaning Peach fuzz and surface smoothness Removes superficial dead cells and fine facial hair alongside Glo2 Not suitable for every skin condition
TCA 5-Berry Peel from GlyMed Plus Suitable hyperpigmentation concerns A targeted chemical-peel option Requires suitability screening and peel-specific aftercare
Microneedling Selected acne scars and textural concerns Controlled skin needling Requires preparation, recovery and realistic expectations
RF skincare treatment Firmer, tighter-looking skin Controlled heating Doesn't provide a surgical lift

These are concern-based choices, not interchangeable versions of the same facial. The right selection depends on what your skin needs now and what you're comfortable maintaining.

1. Glo2: best facial for mature skin starting an ongoing plan

Glo2 is my typical first treatment for most clients, including clients over 40. It gives us a starting point for personalized care without assuming that everyone needs a peel or microneedling right away.

The Deluxe Glo is the Glo2 menu option to discuss when planning your visit. Within a suitable Glo2 treatment, pod choice and strength help shape the approach, while ultrasound assists serum penetration. Optional RF controlled heating requires its own suitability assessment.

Glo2 sensations vary by person and OxyPod. You might notice light, bubbly tingling or a very active sensation, depending on the pod strength; I don't describe every Glo2 treatment as barely noticeable.

Glo2 pros:

  • Supports a personalized starting point rather than an age-based prescription.
  • Offers pod choices that can be considered around your concerns.
  • Fits into progressive care as your skin and routine change.

Glo2 cons:

  • Doesn't replace every targeted pigment, scar or firmness treatment.
  • Requires component-specific screening; one person's experience doesn't predict yours.

Best for: Mature skin beginning an ongoing treatment plan at Brittdaesthetics.

Verdict: Buy—choose Glo2 as my default starting recommendation, subject to screening.

2. Glo2 with dermaplaning: best for surface smoothness

If peach fuzz and rough surface texture are making makeup sit unevenly, this is my preferred pairing for suitable skin. Glo2 and dermaplaning go together like peanut butter and jelly!

Dermaplaning removes superficial dead cells and fine facial hair. That directly addresses the surface your makeup sits on, but it doesn't prove faster production of deeper skin cells or correct deeper scars.

For suitable skin, I recommend Glo2 paired with dermaplaning every 4 weeks to help maintain surface smoothness and smoother makeup application. That recommendation is individualized, not a requirement to exfoliate skin that's already irritated.

Glo2 with dermaplaning pros:

  • Addresses peach fuzz directly.
  • Combines targeted surface exfoliation with a personalized Glo2 treatment.
  • Supports the smoother surface many makeup wearers want.

Glo2 with dermaplaning cons:

  • Isn't appropriate over every breakout or irritated area.
  • Doesn't treat all causes of uneven texture or loss of firmness.

Best for: Suitable skin with peach fuzz and a surface-smoothness goal.

Verdict: Buy—choose the pairing when surface texture is your priority and your skin is suitable.

3. TCA 5-Berry Peel: best for suitable hyperpigmentation concerns

When uneven pigmentation is your main concern, choosing another general facial without discussing the pigment itself misses the point. The TCA 5-Berry Peel from GlyMed Plus is a treatment to discuss for suitable hyperpigmentation.

Chemical peels use controlled chemical exfoliation, but suitability depends on more than wanting brighter-looking skin. Your skin history, recent product use, irritation and ability to follow aftercare all matter.

A peel isn't a reason to scrub harder beforehand. It's a reason to arrive with an honest account of what you've been using and let the treatment plan account for it.

TCA 5-Berry Peel pros:

  • Gives suitable hyperpigmentation a focused treatment discussion.
  • Can form part of a broader corrective skincare plan.
  • Offers an alternative when pigment is the priority rather than peach fuzz.

TCA 5-Berry Peel cons:

  • Requires treatment-specific preparation and aftercare.
  • Doesn't replace assessment of new or changing pigmented spots by a medical professional.

Best for: Suitable clients whose primary concern is hyperpigmentation.

Verdict: Hold—confirm the pigment concern and treatment suitability before choosing a peel.

4. Microneedling: best for selected acne scars and texture

Some texture sits deeper than the superficial cells dermaplaning removes. Microneedling uses controlled skin needling and is a different treatment category from a surface-smoothing facial.

Microneedling is the menu treatment to discuss when selected acne scars or textural concerns lead your priorities. It's not an automatic upgrade because you're over 40, and a single appointment isn't a promise of smooth, scar-free skin.

Combination therapy is one of my favorite ways to work toward goal skin. My typical acne-scar plan combines ongoing maintenance Glo2, microneedling in spring, and chemical peels in fall or winter. That's an individualized example across appointments—not a universal seasonal requirement or an automatic same-day combination.

Microneedling pros:

  • Creates a focused discussion around selected scars and texture.
  • Can fit alongside maintenance care across separate appointments.
  • Addresses a different goal from peach-fuzz removal.

Microneedling cons:

  • Requires preparation, aftercare and recovery planning.
  • Doesn't erase every scar or replace management of active skin problems.

Best for: Suitable clients prioritizing selected acne scars or textural concerns.

Verdict: Hold—choose microneedling after assessment, not simply because it sounds more intensive.

5. RF skincare treatment: best for a firmness-focused discussion

If your main concern is that skin looks less firm, another exfoliating step isn't necessarily the answer. RF uses controlled heating and can be considered for firmer, tighter-looking skin.

I separate that goal from promises of lifting. An RF skincare treatment isn't a surgical facelift, and the treatment name alone doesn't tell you whether it belongs in your plan.

Optional RF within a Glo2 approach also needs individual screening. Medical history and relevant devices or implants belong in that conversation before treatment, not afterward.

RF skincare treatment pros:

  • Focuses the treatment discussion on firmness rather than exfoliation.
  • Can be considered within an individualized skincare plan.
  • Offers a different approach from peels or dermaplaning.

RF skincare treatment cons:

  • Doesn't reproduce surgical repositioning of tissue.
  • Requires component-specific screening and realistic expectations.

Best for: Suitable clients prioritizing firmer, tighter-looking skin.

Verdict: Hold—discuss RF when firmness is the concern, without expecting a facelift result.

How I ranked these treatments

My 2026 recommendations prioritize concern fit, skin tolerance, personalization, recovery and consistency—not a claim that one treatment wins every comparison.

At Brittdaesthetics, Glo2 ranks first because it's my typical starting recommendation for most clients. The other options earn distinct roles: dermaplaning for surface smoothness, a suitable peel for pigmentation, microneedling for selected texture concerns, and RF for a firmness-focused discussion. This is a treatment-selection guide, not a clinical trial ranking.

Don't let a peel name choose your treatment

It's easy to compare treatments by the finish you want: brighter, smoother, fresher-looking skin. But a finish isn't a suitability assessment, and attractive terminology doesn't explain preparation or recovery.

A name such as LHALA peel treatment doesn't tell you whether a peel suits your current irritation, recent retinoid use or pigmentation concern. Those questions still need answers before treatment selection.

The same rule applies to my recommendations. Ask what the treatment targets, why it fits your skin, what its limitations are and what you'll need to do afterward. A clear explanation is more useful than choosing by the most appealing name.

Prepare your skin without trying to perfect it

Please don't give yourself an aggressive exfoliation session before coming in. Your skin doesn't need to pass a test!

Recent retinol or prescription retinoid use can add irritation when combined with more intensive treatments. Tell me what you use and when you last used it; follow the booked treatment's published pause instructions, and consult your prescriber before changing prescription use. There isn't one pause interval that fits every service.

Keep preparation straightforward:

  • Share your routine: Include exfoliating acids, retinoids and recent procedures.
  • Leave spots alone: Picking acne adds trauma rather than preparing skin.
  • Remove makeup gently: Cleanse before bed without scrubbing irritated areas.
  • Protect your skin: Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher as part of daily sun protection.

Pregnant clients must obtain medical clearance from their pregnancy care provider before Glo2. That clearance does not override component-specific suitability screening.

Build consistency into your 2026 skin plan

I recommend Glo2 every 4 weeks for most clients, individualized as needed. Consistent appointments let us reassess your skin and adjust the plan instead of repeatedly starting from scratch.

That interval isn't a claim that everyone's full skin renewal takes exactly four weeks. Glo2 can also be scheduled more often than monthly when I recommend it for an individual's goals; shorter intervals and added components require assessment.

Think of ongoing care as a cycle:

  • Assessment: Identify your priority and current skin condition.
  • Treatment: Choose suitable components for that appointment.
  • Home care: Follow aftercare and maintain a manageable routine.
  • Reassessment: Review tolerance and concerns before choosing the next step.
A repeating skincare cycle of assessment, treatment, home care and reassessment
Your next treatment follows reassessment, not an automatic increase in intensity.

Your routine between appointments matters, but it doesn't have to become complicated overnight. Start with the instructions for your treatment and build from there.

Which facial should you choose?

For an undecided first-time client, Glo2 remains my best overall recommendation. Choose Glo2 with dermaplaning when peach fuzz and surface smoothness are your priorities and your skin is suitable.

If pigmentation, selected acne scars or firmness dominate your concerns, bring that goal into the booking conversation. You don't have to diagnose yourself or arrive knowing which treatment to request.

For Mooresville and Lake Norman clients planning care in 2026, The Glo Collection is the center of an ongoing plan—not a promise that one appointment will address everything.

FAQ

What's the best facial for mature skin over 40?

Glo2 is my best overall recommendation at Brittdaesthetics for mature skin starting an ongoing treatment plan. Your main concern and skin suitability determine whether dermaplaning or a more targeted treatment belongs in that plan.

Is Glo2 with dermaplaning a good choice for mature skin?

Glo2 with dermaplaning is my preferred pairing for suitable mature skin with peach fuzz and surface-smoothness concerns. Dermaplaning removes superficial dead cells and fine facial hair; it doesn't correct every cause of deeper texture.

How often should I get a Glo2 facial?

I recommend Glo2 every 4 weeks for most clients, with timing individualized to skin condition and goals. I sometimes recommend shorter intervals after assessment; monthly scheduling isn't a universal skin-renewal rule.

Does a Glo2 facial feel gentle?

Glo2 sensations depend on the person and OxyPod strength, ranging from light, bubbly tingling to a very active sensation. Tell your provider what you're feeling rather than assuming discomfort must be tolerated.

Should I stop retinol before a mature-skin facial?

Follow the published preparation instructions for your booked treatment rather than a universal retinol pause. Disclose recent use, and consult your prescriber before adjusting prescription retinoids.

Can an RF facial replace a facelift?

An RF facial does not replace a surgical facelift. Controlled heating can be considered for firmer, tighter-looking skin, but it doesn't reproduce surgical repositioning of tissue.

Do I need a perfect skincare routine before booking?

You don't need a perfect skincare routine before booking. Bring your current product information and concerns so the first treatment and home-care discussion start with what you're actually doing.

One last thing

Your best 2026 skincare decision isn't necessarily a stronger treatment—it's a clearer priority. Tell me whether you'd most like smoother makeup application, support for uneven pigmentation, attention to scars or a firmness-focused plan.

At Brittdaesthetics, that answer helps shape your mature-skin facial plan. You're welcome to start with questions; choosing the treatment together is part of the care.
